FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin woman was flown to an Erie-area hospital after her vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer Thursday morning.

Franklin-based State Police said the accident happened around 6:20 a.m. when Kelsey R. Eichholtz, 22, was traveling at a high rate of speed while attempting to negotiate a righthand turn on 15th Street.

Eichholtz’s 2007 Pontiac Vibe left the northbound passing lane and crossed into the southbound lane where it struck a 2012 Volvo tractor-trailer operated by Frederick A. Utegg, 58, of Youngsville.

Police said Eichholtz’s vehicle went under the trailer and struck its dual wheels.

The impact of the collision caused the tractor-trailer to crash into a guide rail where it came to a final rest.

Eichholtz’s vehicle came to a final rest in the middle of 15th Street.

Eichholtz was air-lifted from the scene to UPMC Hamot in Erie for treatment of what police believe are serious injuries.

Utegg was not injured.

Franklin Police, Sandycreek Volunteer Fire Department, Polk Volunteer Fire Department, and Community Ambulance also assisted at the scene.

Reno Volunteer Fire Department assisted with traffic control.

The roadway was shut down shortly after the accident happened. It reopened around 9:45 a.m.
