| February 18, 2019

VENANGO CO., Pa. – The Franklin-Oil Region Credit Union, a $40M financial institution, is celebrating its 45th year of serving approximately 7,600 members in Venango County with their new Chief Executive Officer Karen Baldwin.

The credit union is honored and excited to have selected Karen as their new CEO. Karen is a strong, seasoned financial services professional with a value-driven leadership style. Operating a credit union is challenging and demanding at times and requires dedication and commitment from all involved.

Tonya Sharrar, Business Development Specialist at Franklin-Oil Region Credit Union, told exploreVenango.com, “We feel very fortunate to have Karen on our team making a positive impact and shaping the growth of the credit union.”

Credit unions are an important part of the communities they serve.

They are member-owned not-for-profit financial organizations whose main priority is to pass along their earnings in the form of low-cost products and services to benefit their members. With locations in both Oil City and Franklin, membership to Franklin-Oil Region Credit is available to anyone who lives, works, worships, volunteers, attends school, or owns a business in Venango County. With their staff of twenty highly trained personnel, Franklin-Oil Region Credit Union is here to serve the financial needs of all their members.

Franklin-Oil Region Credit Union strives to provide superior service by staying on top of advancements in technology and offering a wide range of new products and services to simplify banking and to provide even more convenience to its members.

Recently, a new “Mobile Banking” app was introduced to give members the added convenience of viewing their balances and transactions, transfer funds, and pay bills all conveniently from their mobile phone. Remote deposit capture, also implemented this year, enables members to send a picture of their check for deposit without ever having to step foot inside one of their locations. Even though they are keeping up with technology, Franklin-Oil Region Credit Union still offers very traditional products to meet their member’s financial needs.

A smile is always the first thing their members are greeted by. Their staff of friendly tellers aims to provide a pleasant in-person experience.

Franklin-Oil Region Credit Union is dedicated in its support of the local community.

In addition to numerous sponsorships of local events and fundraisers, their employees take pride in the number of volunteer hours they contribute. They have also created what they dub as “Team Franklin,” a group of employees who congregate once a month on a surprise campaign to give back to the community. In the past year, “Team Franklin” has paid for veterinarian bills, medicine, gas, and numerous donations, as well as giving to families who are in need.
Understanding the community they serve is at the core of who they are.

Franklin-Oil Region has also put a renewed effort to expand the number of youth memberships in 2019. Youth accounts teach children financial responsibility and good savings habits while offering prizes and various fun events. The credit union holds an annual youth celebration party at Skate Capital in Seneca. The party always includes skating, games, food, and giveaways at no cost to their adolescent members.

Smart Saver accounts are also available for students up to 18 years old, rewarding them for excelling in their education. Achieving good grades can earn students money and help teach them about financial management. Students receive $1.00 for every “A” and $0.50 for every “B,” deposited directly in their Smart Saver account once they bring in their report cards. This program allows them to see the growth of their account, what they deposit on their own, what they earn with their good grades, and the interest earned – and start learning the habit of saving early on. These earnings become available at age 18 and can be used by the student toward their higher education, purchasing their first car, starting a business, or any other goal they set.

Franklin-Oil Region Credit Union is invigorated by the possibilities that lie ahead and will continue to enhance their ability to provide our members with high-quality products, a full range of services and financial guidance they need and want.

Franklin-Oil Region Credit Union mission is to meet members’ financial needs through quality service at the best value while maintaining financial stability.
