Utica Man Who Killed Deer During Closed Season Sentenced to Probation

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — A Utica man who killed two deer in Sugarcreek Borough during a closed season was sentenced on Monday to probation.

Court documents indicate on Monday, December 10, Judge Robert L. Boyer sentenced 32-year-old Raymond T Sires Jr. to 18 months of probation on a first-degree misdemeanor count of unlawful kill/take big game-closed season.

Sires pleaded guilty to the above charge on October 7.

As a result of the plea agreement, the following charges were withdrawn:

– Intimidate Witness/Victim — Withhold Testimony, Misdemeanor 2
– Unlaw Use Of Artificial Light, Misdemeanor
– Taking/Possession Of Game Or Wildlife, Summary 2

The charges stem from incidents that allegedly occurred on Keely Road, off State Route 427, in Sugarcreek Borough, Venango County.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, the Pennsylvania Game Commission Northwest Regional Headquarters reported the following incidents:

– Sometime between October 28, 2018, and March 14, 2019, Raymond T. Sires used his vehicle and artificial light to locate and kill an 8-point white-tailed buck with a crossbow at night (closed season).

– On October 29, 2018, Sires used his vehicle and artificial light to locate and kill a 10-point white-tailed buck with a crossbow at night (closed season).

The complaint states that the incidents are contrary to multiple provisions of Title 34.

The unlawful deer were the second and the third deer killed within seven years of a previous violation of the same title and section; therefore, the violation grading is a misdemeanor.
