| March 13, 2018

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – A Utica woman is facing criminal charges after she allegedly used an athletic booster club debit account to pay for her personal expenses.

According to court documents, the following charges were filed on March 12 against 35-year-old Rebekah Joanne Eakin, of Utica, in Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office:

– Other Reason Access Device Is Unauthorized By Issuer (43 counts)
– Theft By Unlaw Taking-Movable Property

According to a criminal complaint, around 5:07 p.m. on November 20, 2017, a known individual arrived at the Franklin Police Department to report fraudulent activity involving the “Friends of Franklin Wrestling Club,” a juvenile wrestling booster club.

The individual stated there was over $5,000.00 stolen from the club’s bank account while it was under the direct responsibility of Rebekah Eakin.

The complaint states that from January 2016 to August 2017, Eakin used a debit card, which was issued to her from the “Friends of Franklin Wrestling Club,” and she allegedly made 43 withdrawals and/or transactions that were unauthorized by the club.

The total amount taken from the account and not used for the club’s benefit was $5,125.20.

Franklin Police Officer Johnson interviewed Eakin on January 9, 2018, at the police station. Eakin allegedly admitted to using the account for personal gains, such as paying her cell phone bill. She also stated that she had always put the money back in the account, the complaint states.

Officer Johnson asked her why she had not provided the club with documentation for the withdrawals from the account, and she allegedly said she had supplied some but had lost the majority of the receipts due to complications in her personal life, according to the complaint.

A preliminary arraignment is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, with Judge Kirtland presiding.
