ambulance-blurryPINEGROVE TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Police say a vehicle versus Amish buggy accident occurred on State Route 157, in Pinegrove Township, Venango County.

According to Franklin-based State Police, 83-year-old Clarence S. Lee and a known, 15-year-old male, both of Venus, were involved in the collision.

Police say this crash occurred around 9:25 p.m. on June 27, as a 2007 Toyota RAV-4, driven by Lee, and an Amish buggy, operated by a 15-year-old male, were traveling east on Route 157.

As the Toyota was cresting a hill, Lee did not see the Amish buggy straddling the white fog line and collided with the rear of it, causing the buggy to strike the horse. Lee then applied the brakes, disengaging from the buggy, then continued in a straight line until coming to a final rest on the right shoulder approximately 300 feet from the initial point of impact, according to police.

The Amish buggy traveled approximately 300 feet in a tumbling motion. Both the 15-year-old operator and a 13-year-old male passenger, of Venus, were thrown from the buggy.

Community Ambulance Service transported both occupants of the Amish buggy to UPMC Northwest for suspected minor injuries.

Lee was using a seat belt and was not injured.

The Toyota was towed by Minch’s Towing.

Pinegrove Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
