JENKS TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State Police say a one-vehicle accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon on Loleta Road, in Jenks Township, Forest County.

According to Marienville-based State Police, around 3:48 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 87-year-old Carl L. Barton, of Worthington, Pa., was traveling northbound on Loleta Road toward Marienville. He was attempting to negotiate an uphill left curve in the roadway in his 2007 Lincoln MKX.

Due to the speed of the vehicle, Barton was unable to maintain control of it. It exited the roadway on the east side and traveled approximately 450 feet before impacting a tree and came to a final rest at this location.

Barton was not injured.

A passenger in his vehicle – 80-year-old Aletha C. Mossburg, of Vowinckel – suffered suspected minor injuries.

Clarion Ambulance transported both occupants to Clarion Hospital.

Both individuals were using seat belts.

According to police, it was determined that Barton was driving too fast for roadway conditions, but he was not cited.
