OAKLAND TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A vehicle slid on a patch of ice, struck a tree, then drifted backward into a stream in Oakland Township on Thursday evening.

According to police, around 8:27 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 31-year-old Daniel P. Flaherty of Oil City, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, traveling on Cooperstown Road in Oakland Township, Venango County.

Police say Flaherty was negotiating a left-hand turn when the vehicle hit a patch of ice on the roadway and started to fishtail. The vehicle then struck a tree on the rear passenger side corner, spinning it 90 degrees in the opposite direction.

The vehicle then began to drift backward with the front end of the vehicle facing west. It then drifted backward over the embankment before coming to a final rest in a stream.

Flaherty was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.
