Venango County Commissioners Approve PEMA Contracts for Grant Funding

| January 9, 2019

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – At the Venango County Commissioners’ meeting on Tuesday evening, several contracts with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) in relation to Emergency Management grant funding were approved.

Three separate contracts with PEMA were approved by the commissioners.

According to Venango County Planning Commision Executive Director Jason Ruggiero, these contracts are part of a change in the scope of a grant that was issued to the county a number of years ago.

“We were unable to spend the money in the way that the grant was originally set out, and fortunately PEMA has allowed us to change the purpose of the funds,” explained Ruggiero.

The contracts were approved for:

  • $422,000.82 to purchase and install generators at the Sandycreek Township Building, Sandycreek Firehall, and the City of Franklin Professional Building;
  • $88,594.96 to purchase various messaging signs and barricades for use in emergency situations; and
  • $485,725.38 for purchase and installation of a fiber optic line through Sandycreek Township, the City of Franklin, and also upgrades to the City of Franklin Professional Building to create a joint emergency operations center for the county EMA unit.

“The City of Franklin, Sandycreek Township, and the county have no expenses. It’s a million dollar grant to the county and to those entities who purchase these items,” Ruggiero noted.

The contract approvals highlighted the monthly commissioner’s meeting that was mostly routine business.
