Cooperstown Man to be Sentenced in Sexual Assault Case

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – A 20-year-old Cooperstown man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy in Oil City will soon be sentenced for the crime.

According to court documents, 20-year-old Kyle Heffern, of Cooperstown was facing multiple charges for allegedly engaging in “sexual and deviate sexual” intercourse with a 14-year-old boy on January 1, 2017. All but one charge was withdrawn in district court.

Heffern pleaded guilty on July 13 to a first-degree misdemeanor charge of Corruption of Minors.

The following charges were dismissed at a preliminary hearing:

– Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse – Person Less Than 16 Yrs Age, Felony 1
– Statutory Sexual Assault: 4-8 Years Older, Felony 2
– Aggravated Indecent Assault – Complainant Less Than 16, Felony 2
– Indecent Assault – Person Less than 16 Yrs Age, Misdemeanor 2

Online court documents show that Heffern remains free on $100,000.00 unsecured bail.

His sentencing is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on September 8 in Venango County Court of Common Pleas with Judge Robert L. Boyer presiding.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint filed by Oil City Police Patrolman Culp, Heffern was accused of engaging in oral and anal sex with a 14-year-old boy on January 1, 2017.

The two reportedly made arrangements via text and the social media application Grindr to meet that day.
