SUGARCREEK, Pa. (EYT) – A man accused of brandishing a knife in an apparent road rage incident in Sugarcreek Borough is due in court next week.

Court documents indicate 31-year-old Gary M. Minteer, of New Castle, is scheduled to stand for a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey at 1:30 p.m. on Wedensday, November 7, on the following charges:

  • Terroristic Threats with Intent to Terrorize Another, Misdemeanor 1
  • Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, a known victim reported that around 1:30 p.m. on August 18, he was traveling through Oil City when Gary Minteer almost rear-ended him. The victim stated both vehicles were traveling south on State Route 8 in Sugarcreek Borough, and Minteer pulled around him and spiked his brakes in an attempt to cause the victim to rear end him.

The victim stated that both vehicles continued south to the parking lot of the Big Lots store, and Minteer got out of his truck and approached him. The victim reported that Minteer had a knife, and when he asked Minteer why he had the knife, Minteer stated he was going to “cut the (expletive) out of” him, according to the complaint.

The complaint indicates that both the victim and a witness reported that Minteer made the same threatening statement several times before calming down and leaving.

The complaint also notes that Lieutenant Baker, of the Sugarcreek Borough Police Department, interviewed Minteer, and Minteer allegedly admitted to following the victim and having a knife in his hand when he got out of his vehicle.

Based on the investigation, charges were filed against Minteer on Tuesday, October 2, in Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey’s office.

A first-class summons was issued on Tuesday, October 2.
