OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — The hearing for a Detroit man charged in connection with an overdose death that occurred in Oil City last year was continued today.
Court documents indicate that the hearing for 21-year-old Jeremy Cardell Ludy, of Detriot, MI, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12 was continued.
The hearing is scheduled to resume at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9.
Ludy faces the following charges:
- Drug Delivery Resulting In Death, Felony 1
- Conspiracy — Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony
- Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony
- Involuntary Manslaughter, Misdemeanor 1
Ludy remains lodged in the Venango County Jail, without bail with the reason on the court documents listed as “flight risk.”
Details of the case:
According to a criminal complaint, on February 26, 2017, the Pennsylvania State Police responded to the area of Upper Sage Run Road in Venango County for a report of an overdose victim.
EMS personnel from the Seneca Volunteer Fire Department and Community Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
The victim, Derek Black, Jr., subsequently succumbed to the effects of using an unspecified amount of heroin.
The case was transferred to the Oil City Police Department on February 28, 2017.
According to the complaint, Thomas L. Crose and Tara E. Bowden were involved in the delivery of heroin to Black and two others. Bowden traveled to a known residence and was provided with one gram of heroin by Mae Shirey which she then subsequently sold to Black and two others.
Upon receiving the heroin, Bowden traveled back to her residence and made contact with Crose and provided him with the heroin. Bowden then had contact with Black and two others and provided them with one gram of heroin in exchange for $200.00 before departing the area.
Through investigation, Chief Wenner and Patrolman Ruditis learned that Shirey was the local coordinator for the delivery of large amounts of controlled substances, conspiring with an element from the Detroit, Michigan area known as T, CJ, and Rico, as well as Crose and Bowden in the Oil City area.
According to the complaint, Shirey and the others conspired to transport and deliver large amounts of controlled substances including heroin, cocaine, and crack cocaine throughout the Venango County area, and both Crose and Bowden, as well as Shirey, identified T as being the coordinator for the element out of Detroit.
Through police discovered the last name of T was Ludy, and Jeremy Cardell Ludy was identified from prior law enforcement matters.
Based on the investigation, charges were filed on June 27, 2017, and a warrant was issued for Ludy’s arrest.
He was taken into custody on Tuesday, November 20, 2018.
Thomas L. Crose was sentenced to eighteen months to ten years confinement on one felony count of Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver charge on December 5, 2017.
Tara Eileen Bowden was sentenced to six months to two years less one day of confinement, with authorized work release, on one felony count of Conspiracy — Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver on December 5, 2017.
Mae Shirey was sentenced to three years of probation on one felony count of Conspiracy — Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver charge on November 3, 2017.
