Franklin Man Charged with Hitting Woman With Cane, Threatening to Kill Her Faces Hearing on Wednesday

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin man is due in court on Wednesday in connection with charges stemming an incident where he allegedly struck a woman repeatedly with a cane.

According to court documents, 61-year-old Ralph N. Peterson Jr., of Franklin, is scheduled to stand for a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, in Venango County Central Court in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish.

He faces the following charges:

– Terroristic Threats With Intent to Terrorize Another, Misdemeanor 1
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2 (two counts)

His preliminary hearing has been continued five times since his arraignment on June 28 (July 3, July 10, July 17, July 31, and the current August 14).

Peterson remains lodged in the Venango County Jail on $2,500.00 monetary bail.

The charges stem from a domestic assault incident that occurred at a residence on 10th Street, in Franklin, Venango County on June 28 involving Ralph Peterson.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 9:24 a.m. on Friday, June 28, Patrolman Gilchrist, of the Franklin Police Department, was dispatched to the above-described location for a report of a physical domestic assault.

Patrolman Gilchrist spoke to a known female victim at the residence who reported that she and Ralph Peterson engaged in a verbal argument that turned physical when Peterson struck her multiple times on the arms, legs, and head, with his metal cane.

The complaint notes that Patrolman Gilchrist observed a lump on the victim’s head.

According to the complaint, Peterson also allegedly stated that he was going to kill the victim while she was on the phone with the police.

Peterson was arrested on June 28.

He was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland at 1:24 p.m. on Friday, June 28.
