FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — The Venango County Crimestoppers organization has stopped its operation.

According to a Tuesday morning post on its Facebook page, the Venango County group is no longer active.

According to a statement from the group, “The civilian board opted to retire. Without a civilian board, the organization cannot operate as law enforcement cannot offer cash to tipsters. The meetings had very low turnout, and the members felt it was time to dissolve.”

It directed people to provide tips and information on crimes to the state group, which can be found on Facebook and Twitter.

Crimestoppers is a non-profit organization of concerned citizens that assists law enforcement by providing cash rewards to informants whose tips lead to an arrest.

Tips called in on the TIPS line can remain anonymous and the tips are forwarded to the police department investigating the crime.

Crime Stoppers is administered by a civilian Board of Directors who volunteers their time.

For more information, go to www.crimewatchpa.com/crimestoppers/316.

The board, with input from all involved law enforcement agencies and the Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers Coordinator, determine the amount of the rewards and eligibility.

Contributions are solicited from service organizations, social clubs, business men and women, corporations, and interested citizens, as well as fund raising events.

Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization under Section 501(C) (3) of the IRS Code. All contributions are tax deductible.
