Venango County Inmate Pleads Guilty to Harassment; Terroristic Threats Charge Withdrawn

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – A prisoner in the Venango County Jail pleaded guilty to harassment charges for making threats to an inmate.

According to a criminal complaint, the Franklin Police Department received a report of an assault that had taken place on April 8 at the Venango County Jail.

Officer Young arrived on the scene and spoke to Sargeant Williams and a correction officer. The correction officer described the situation that occurred before dinner hours in which 26-year-old Ashley Dawn Shilala allegedly threatened another inmate, the complaint states.

Officer Young observed video surveillance footage showing Shilala approaching a known individual and making several aggressive and threatening bodily gestures. Shilala also appeared to be threatening another inmate while making the aggressive gestures before being separated by correction officers, the complaint indicates.

According to the complaint, Officer Young also obtained information from another inmate stating that Shilala threatened the known individual’s life stating, “I’m going to kill you! It’s not a threat; it’s a promise.”

During a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland, Shilala pleaded guilty to a third-degree misdemeanor charge of Harassment – Communicating Lewd, Threatening, Etc. Language.

One count of first-degree misdemeanor Terroristic Threats W/ Intent To Terrorize Another and two counts of summary Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact were withdrawn.

According to court documents, as of May 4, 2018, Shilala was lodged at SCI Muncy stemming from an unrelated incident in 2012 involving a case of Receiving Stolen Property.
