MANHUNT OVER: Attempted Kidnapping Suspect Apprehended in Barkeyville

VENANGO CO., Pa. (EYT) – State Police in Franklin have captured a man wanted for an alleged attempted kidnapping following an extensive manhunt in Venango County.

According to Trooper Michelle McGee, Community Services Officer for Franklin-based State Police, 36-year-old Jeremy E. Chambers, of Tarentum, was taken into custody Wednesday around 12:00 p.m. near Barkeyville.

Chambers was apprehended after police received a tip that he was spotted in the Barkeyville area.

The manhunt began on Tuesday after Franklin-based State Police received a tip that Chambers was at a residence along Old Route 8 in southern Venango County and when troopers arrived, he fled on a red ATV.

According to police, Chambers was then spotted on stolen black and yellow dirt bike in the Clintonville area.

The stolen vehicle from Pittsburgh, a stolen trailer, the stolen ATV, and the stolen dirt bike have been recovered.

Chambers is wanted in New Kensington for aggravated assault, attempted kidnapping, and theft of a motor vehicle.

The charges were filed after Chambers allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend, Amanda Lea Schafer of New Kensington, and then attempted to kidnap her Saturday around 5:00 p.m. in an alley in New Kensington. He then fled the area in a stolen vehicle.

Troopers on the ground and at least one PSP helicopter were used to scour the Venango County area for Chambers.
