Venango County Voters Share Thoughts About Candidates

| October 20, 2016

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — Voters in Venango County seem to have the same concerns about the two main presidential candidates that many have across the country.

With the Nov. 8 election on the horizon and the last debate set for Wednesday, many still aren’t sure who they will vote for, but the one consensus is that voters will likely be picking against a candidate rather than choosing one.

The latest national polls show Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton leads Republican challenger Donald Trump by double digits.

A poll by NBC News and the Wall Street Journal has Clinton with 48 percent among likely voters while Trump is drawing 37 percent. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson has 7 percent while Green Party’s Jill Stein has 2.

In a two-way race, Clinton leads Trump, 51-41.

A poll by ABC News and the Washington Post shows Clinton leading 47-43.

For Richard Phillips, he is mostly concerned about Clinton taking his guns away.

“I don’t like either of them,” Phillips said. “But I don’t want my guns taken away from me and I think Hillary wants to do that. And I don’t like how she committed treason.

“Donald Trump, I just don’t know him well enough. I like the fact that he is Republican. I’m going to vote Republican.

“I like that he’s not gonna take my guns away from me.”

Phillips volunteers at the Atlantic Avenue United Brethren Church.

Crystal Walker, also of Franklin, doesn’t like either candidate.

“They are both bad people. I think this election is a joke,” Walker said.

For Donna DeJulia, who has admittedly had troubles with substance abuse and has been in trouble with the law, sounded very discouraged.

“I’m kinda scared, I don’t know what’s gonna happen,” Dejulia said. “I might just put the names in a hat and pull one out and then I thought maybe if both of them were president that could work. Because he’s about the economy and she’s something else.

“It’s scary, it really is. The economy is going down the drain and the kids have no one to look up to and they have no future and the adults look down on them.”
