According to a published article in the Observer-Reporter, around 9:00 p.m. on July 25, members of KeyBank Pavilion’s security staff saw a car strike orange-and-white traffic barrels on Starlake Lane before coming to a stop in the parking lot.

The driver of the car was later identified as Rebecca Babis.

Babis allegedly admitted to being intoxicated, and an officer reported that he smelled alcohol on Babis and her eyes were glassy, bloodshot, and watering.

Babis was taken to the Smith Township police station where she refused a breath or blood test. She also allegedly spat water onto an officer and kicked him at the station.

Babis was then transported back to the amphitheater grounds, from which Fort Cherry Ambulance staff were to transfer her to the hospital due to her behavior and her alleged state of intoxication.

She then allegedly kicked an officer who was putting her on an ambulance stretcher, bit another officer, and repeatedly attempted to strike other officers.

Based on the investigation, charges were filed against Babis on Monday, July 30, in Magisterial District Judge Gary H. Havelka’s office.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, September 13, with Judge Havelka presiding.
