SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. — Winners have been announced for the fourth annual Venango and Forest County Teen Driving Competition, which was held yesterday at the Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department in Sugarcreek Borough.

The first place winner was Jacob Gomola of Cranberry Area Junior/Senior High School, and he received a $1,000 cash prize.

The second place winner was Brandon Dittman of East Forest Junior/Senior High School, and received a $500 cash prize.

The third place winner was David Zlotnicki of Venango Catholic High School, and he received a $300 cash prize.

The team trophy was won by the team from the Cranberry Area Junior/Senior High School. Members of the Cranberry team were Jacob Gomola, Matthew McSparren, and Matthew Wolbert.

The competition, held to promote teen driving safety, was sponsored by the Sheriffs’ Offices in Venango and Forest counties, with support from businesses and other safety agencies.

In addition to a written safety-knowledge exam, students were judged on perceptual assessment and a driving skills test. Members of the sheriff’s office, local law enforcement officers and other safety stakeholders served as judges for the event.

The first and second place winners will have the opportunity to travel to the state competition in Camp Hill, PA, in May to compete for up to $5,000 in scholarships.

Seventeen students from seven schools in Venango and Forest counties participated in the event.
