Villard W. Byers, Jr.

Villard Wayne “Bugs” Byers, Jr., formerly of Clarion and Sligo, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2018, at Menno Haven in Chambersburg, PA, where he had been residing.

He was 84 years of age.

Born on March 28, 1934, in Monroe Twp., he was the son of Villard W., Sr. and Ruth B. (Klingensmith) Byers who have preceded him in death. He graduated from Clarion High School. On April 27, 1956, he married the former Alice Lou Henry who preceded him in death in 1989.

“Bugs” enjoyed woodworking and built the kitchen cabinets in the family home in Tin Town. He loved helping others with minor home repairs. He loved reading his Bible and when he could no longer live on his own, his Bible was his constant companion. Working on puzzles became his favorite past time. In his later years, he enjoyed activities at Elder Day at Menno Haven in Chambersburg where he remained active and took field trips.

He will be greatly missed by friends, loved ones, and family. He is survived by three children, Rod Byers (Marlene) of Greenville, SC, Dan Byers of Chambersburg, and Sharon Zareva (John) of Allen, TX; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Nelson Byers (Debbie) of New Bethlehem and their family.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion. A memorial service will be held at the family’s convenience. Interment has taken place at Cedarview Memorial Park in Strattanville.
