Viola “Sally” Smith, 85, of Wilson Avenue, Franklin, passed away at her residence at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2012.

Born in Rockland Township on April 9, 1927, Sally was the daughter of the late Earl and Viola Jacoby Karns. She was married to Calvin Smith on June 11, 1945, and he preceded her in death in 1994.

Sally was a member of the Atlantic Avenue United Brethren in Christ Church. She enjoyed needlework and working with flowers.

She is survived by her daughters, Katherine M. Bellin and her husband, Clinton, of Franklin; Patricia D. Bellin and her husband, Robert, of Sandy Lake; and Marilyn J. Baird of Polk. Sally is also survived by her 9 grandchildren, Carrie Smith and her husband, Raymond, of Franklin, Joey Ann Engel and her husband, Justin, of Cooperstown, Chad Hoffman of Tippery, Clinton Bellin of Seneca, Curtis Bellin and Caleb Bellin of Franklin, Ryan Bellin and his wife, Karyn, of Sandy Lake, Bradley Bellin and his wife, Amber, of Meadville, and Matthew Bellin and his wife, Courtney, of Butler; and her 11 great-grandchildren. She is additionally survived by brother, Patrick R. Karns and his wife, Evelyn, of Rocky Grove; and her best friend, “Molly”, her dog.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sally was preceded in death by her infant grandson, Rodney Bellin; and her infant great-grandson, Chase Hoffman.

Family and friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Wednesday, April 18, from 3 – 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, April 19 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Brad Riddle, pastor of the Atlantic Avenue United Brethren in Christ Church, officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Garden.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either the Visiting Nurses Foundation, 491 Allegheny Blvd., Franklin PA 16323 and/or The Humane Society, PO Box 1045, Oil City PA 16301.
