Virginia “Nook” M. Hartzell, 83, of Shippenville, died Friday evening, September 14, 2012, at the Clarion Hospital.

Born January 26, 1929 in Paint Township, Shippenville; she was the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Mary A. Baughman Hartzell.

Virginia shared her life with her companion, Augustine “Jake” F. Selker, who preceded her in death on December 14, 1999.

She served as the Paint Township Secretary for 40 years.

Virginia was very artistic. She enjoyed oil painting, quilting, and cooking.

She is survived by two sisters, Leora Banak of Erie, and Patricia Cyphert of Tallahassee, FL, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and beloved friends and neighbors.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her lifelong companion, Augustine “Jake” Selker; five brothers, Glenwood Hartzell, Russell Hartzell, Dave Hartzell, Byrd Hartzell, and Wade Hartzell; and a sister, Betty Whisner.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2012, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2012, in the funeral home with Pastor Randy L. Evans, Clarion Forest VNA Hospice Chaplain, officiating.

Interment will be held in the Clarion Cemetery.
