Vivian DuncanVivian Ann Duncan, 76, of Rockland, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday morning, May 19, 2017, at her home, surrounded by loving family, following a fierce but quick battle with breast cancer.

She was born in Eagle Rock to the late Lewis C. and Viola L. (Motter) Baughman on August 18, 1940.

A 1958 graduate of Cranberry High School, she later attended the Oil City Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1961.

Vivian was a dedicated member of the Rockland United Methodist Church. She was part of the United Methodist Women’s Group, taught ‘Jesus Kids’ on Wednesday evenings, and volunteered with Child Evangelism Fellowship. She and her husband participated in numerous mission trips to Brazil.

She loved playing golf, and golfed with the Ladies League at River Ridge, Lucky Hills, and Sleepy Hollow golf courses. Vivian also enjoyed woodworking, word puzzle games, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Vivian started her nursing career on the maternity floor at the Oil City Hospital. She later worked as a nurse for Dr. Holmes for many years, and taught the area’s first Lamaze class. She was loved by her many patient families, and was affectionately known as “Pee Wee.” She retired from the Visiting Nurses Association as a hospice nurse in 1996.

She was married to the love of her life at the First Presbyterian Church in Oil City on May 26, 1974 to Freddie M. Duncan, and he survives.

Also surviving is a daughter, Leah M. Arlington and her husband David of Seneca; five grandchildren: Ashley, Hudson, Samuel, and Anna Moore, and Ashley Zacherl and her husband Justin, all of Seneca; and one great-grandson, Ethan Zacherl. She lovingly referred to her grandchildren as “her babies” and never ended a conversation without the words: “I love you, 1,2,3, and more…”

Also surviving are three brothers, Daniel Baughman and his wife Gloria of Seneca, Joel Baughman of Las Vegas, Nevada, and James Baughman and his wife Carolyn of Medford, Massachusetts; her aunt, Vida Emick of Rouseville; a cousin, Linda Kirsch of Henry’s Bend; and three nieces and a nephew, including Jeffrey Baughman and Julie Moskowitz, who used to refer to Vivian as ‘Aunt Iman.’

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Robert Baughman.

Friends and family will be received Sunday (May 21) from 2 — 4 and 7 — 9 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township.

Visitation will be held Monday (May 22) from 10-10:45 a.m. in the Rockland United Methodist Church, 4357 Kennerdell Road, where the funeral service will follow Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Kimmel, church pastor, officiating.

Vivian’s request is that the service is to be a celebration of her life, and those attending are encouraged to wear yellow, and any floral tributes sent also be yellow, in honor of her favorite color.

Interment will follow in Rockland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship, 170 Carnes School Rd., Cranberry, PA 16319; or to the V.N.A. Hospice Foundation, 491 Allegheny Blvd., Franklin, PA 16323.
