W. Woodrow Magness

Woodrow MagnessW. Woodrow “Woody” Magness, born April 13, 1938, to Woodrow T. and Isabelle Kepple Magness, moved on to be with his Lord May 27, 2017.

Woody leaves behind the love of his life and his best friend, Bette L. (Goehring) Magness. He is also survived by one daughter, Wendy (Magness) Seamans (Mark), and two sons, W. Woodrow Magness, Jr., (Wendy Waslo) and Mark C. Magness (Rhonda Hoffman). Woody leaves behind six grandchildren, Leah Ells and Andrew Seamans, Sabrina McCabe and W. Woodrow Magness, III, Dawn Antoon, and Marissa Colvin. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.

Woody leaves behind three sisters, Isabelle Majors, Patricia Zakrajsek and Kathy Irvin-Syme, and one brother, Theodore J. Magness. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin H. and Thomas, and one sister, Darlene.

Woody graduated from Freedom Area High School and Control Data Institute. He worked for Mayer China, Crucible Steel and Cincinnati Inc.

After retirement, Woody and Bette built their dream home on the banks of the Allegheny River in Oil City. Making friends was always easy, given his wonderful smile and contagious personality. He was an avid sportsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. Woody was a master craftsman. He built a hovercraft and refined his own biodiesel fuel. Other noteworthy endeavors were his creativity with stained glass and rocks along the river.

In more recent years, Woody and Bette wintered in Pine Island Cove, Fla., where he enjoyed boating and fishing on the sound, belonging to the men’s club, singing karaoke and dancing.

Woody cherished his friends and will be missed by the many lives he touched.

A celebration of Woody’s life will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial donation is made to either Grace United Methodist Church, 100 Central Ave., Oil City, PA 16301 or Pine Island United Methodist Church, 5701 Pine Island Road, NW, Saint James City, FL 33922.
