‘Walk A Mile In Her Shoes’ Event Planned for April 23

walk mile in her shoes eventFRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – The Family Service and Children’s Aid Society for Venango County is hosting its annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event on Sunday, April 23, in Fountain Park.

This event encourages men to literally walk one mile in women’s shoes to raise awareness of sexual assault.

Registration cost is $15.00. Teams of five or more are $12.00 each.

The money raised will benefit the PPC Violence-Free Network and Shelter, which is a multi-service network for victims in crisis.

Registration begins at 2:00 p.m. Speakers begin at 3:00 p.m., and the march will follow.

Prizes will be awarded for best shoes and for best cat walk.

There will also be prizes for teams.

Anyone who registers before April 3 will be guaranteed a T-shirt.

Events in Recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Also, there are several events coming up in recognition of April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

There are three different self-defense classes scheduled.

Each one is free and open to the public. Participants must be 18 years old or accompanied by an adult if they are a minor.

The first event is set for Tuesday, April 4 at the Oil City YMCA’s aerobic studio. Registration is at 6:00 p.m. and the class is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The second event is set for Monday, April 10, at the Oil City YWCA’s gymnasium. Registration begins at 3:30 p.m. and the class is from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The third class is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, at the Franklin YMCA aerobic studio. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and the class is from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
