Registration is at 2:00 p.m. in the Bandstand Park, Downtown Franklin, Pa.

Speakers and walk begins at 3:00 p.m.

The guest speaker is District Attorney D. Shawn White.

There is an old saying: “You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.”

To raise awareness for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, this event asks men to literally walk one mile in women’s high-heeled shoes to show support in bringing awareness to the topic of sexual assault.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own shoes. High-heeled shoes will be available on the day of the event on a very limited first-come, first-served basis and are to be returned after the walk.

The route begins at 1100 block of Elk to Washington Crossing to Liberty Street to 13th Street to Elk Street. Sponsored by PPC Violence Free Network, a program of FSCAS.

The walk was created in 2001 by Frank Baird and has “become a world-wide movement with tens of thousands of men raising millions of dollars for local rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters and other sexualized violence education, prevention and remediation programs,” according to the events website.

The main objective of the walk is to grab the community’s attention and open communication on the subject.
