Wallace Herbert Landes, Herb or Herbie to most, age 77, of Brookville, PA, passed away on August 13, 2017.

He lived his life for his greatest passions, which included, his daughters Nina and Katie, the forests of Allegheny Mountains, Pittsburgh sports, Golfing with his friends, Carpentry, supporting his community, and perhaps a sip of whisky now and again with good friends.

He was born on October 24, 1939, in Niagara Falls, NY, to the late Wallace Alden and Marguerite Walker (Brooks) Landes.

He first came to this area for his professional career in forestry, which was his lifelong passion.

Herb graduated from the University of Missouri in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry.

He started in the Canadian Government in Sault Ste. Marie, as a Team Leader.

He then moved to Pennsylvania where he became part of the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry. He advised forest land owners on plans and programs to best manage and utilize their forest properties. He was promoted to Clarion to a management position where he directed activities on State Forest Lands, timber sales, gas drilling site locations, access roads, and deer fencing programs.

Those who knew Herb, knew a passionate personality who dedicated his life to his family, friends, work and community.

He was always actively involved with the municipal departments, historical society, and conservation efforts.

He believed that you should always leave the world a better place by what you do.

Herb is survived by his beloved sister, Judith Wilson; daughters, Nina (Ryan Walsh) Landes, of Vail Colorado, and Katie (Jayson) Resch, of Hammonton, NJ; and two grandchildren, Nolan and Madelyn Resch, of Hammonton NJ.

A time of special remembrance will be held privately at the family’s convenience.

Memorial contributions may be made in Herb’s name to Brookville Historical Society, 172 Main St., Brookville, PA 15825 or to the Redbank Valley Trail Association, 301 Broad St., New Bethlehem, PA 16242.
