Walter E. “John” Savage, 91, of Rankin Chapel Road, Kennerdell, Scrubgrass Twp., went to be with the Lord late Friday evening, September 1, 2017, at his home while surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Walter was born in Markleysburg, WV, on February 6, 1926. He was the son of Jasper and Laura Thomas Savage.

He enjoyed hunting, gardening, and the company of his family and friends.

John was a member of the Franklin Church of the Nazarene.

He retired in 1988 as a bridge crew carpenter following 20 years of service with PennDOT.

John is survived by his wife, Mary A. McGinnis Savage, whom he married on March 19, 1954, also surviving are four children, Richard A. Savage, of Kennerdell, Christine Lesnick and her husband, Dale, and Dale C. Savage and his wife, Darlene, all of Emlenton, and James R. Savage, of Kennerdell. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, two nephews, Arnold Savage and his wife Joyce of Farmington and James Savage and his wife, Mary, of Confluence, and a niece, Joyce Savage, of Uniontown, as well as a number of other nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four children, Pamela J. Savage, who died on December 25, 1961, Marcus W. Savage, who died on June 9, 1988, William D. Savage, who died on February 19, 2008, and Robert L. Savage who passed away on February 25, 2008; two brothers, Earl and Wilbur Savage, and a sister, Mae Lewis.

Friends were received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday from the funeral home with the Rev. Dave Smith, pastor of the Franklin Church of the Nazarene, officiating.

Interment was in Scrubgrass Cemetery.
