Warren A. “Shorty” Gross

Gross PhotoOn January 26, 2015 at 7:05p.m., Warren A. “Shorty” Gross, of Clarion, passed away peacefully at Butler Memorial Hospital with family by his side following a brief illness.

Born July 29, 1934, in Limestone, New York, he was the son of Donald E. and Clara (Chandler) Gross, who have preceded him in death.

He was a 1952 graduate of Clarion-Limestone High School. After graduation, he married the former JoAnn Russell of Clarion, who preceded him in death.

After high school, Warren was employed by Knox Glass, from where he retired in 1987.

Afterward he worked as an independent contractor for a maintenance organization that took him to various cities all over the United States, most notably San Francisco, California, in 1989, where he experienced and survived the famous earthquake during the World Series.

He always said that Los Angeles was his favorite place to be called out to, saying that city had “the best year-round weather.”

Warren was of the Protestant faith. He attended the New Rehoboth-Greenville Presbyterian Church until his health deteriorated, at which time he enjoyed watching Praise worship services and Bible teachings on the Sonlight Broadcasting Network.

Warren is survived by his two sons, Robert W. Gross and his wife Brenda of Clarion, and Thomas A. Gross and his wife Terri of Fort Worth, TX, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Arthur E. Gross of Limestone, two sisters, Ruby Hetrick of Gasport NY, and Dorothy Courson of Chesapeake, Virginia, two sisters-in-law, Catherine Gross and Jane Summerville, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, also preceding him in death were two brothers, Noble E. Gross and George G. Gross.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 30, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. James Dietrich, pastor of the New Rehoboth-Greenville Presbyterian Church officiating.

Interment will be in the New Rehoboth Cemetery.
