TIONESTA, Pa. (EYT) — On Wednesday, March 15, West Forest School students will return to their classrooms, and school will resume as usual.

Forest Area School District Superintendent Amanda Hetrick told exploreVenango.com, “We have not smelled the odor in the building since last week….We have taken a number of steps to prevent any recurrence and to keep all of our students and staff safe at West Forest.”

“We have made repairs to all three of the elementary school boilers, including replacing the regulators, cleaning all the drains, flushing the lines, adding foam insulation around the conduits, and capping any unused piping. We have re-routed the gas vent for the building, so that any potential for seepage into the building has been eliminated. We completed air quality testing of both the ambient air in the building and of the odor itself and found no results which would be harmful to building occupants.”

As a precautionary measure, additional detectors have been installed in these classrooms and several others which will alert for any gases that would be harmful. The administration plans to continue analyzing air quality in these areas for as long as there is a need.

“We have been overwhelmed with generosity and greatly appreciate the support and cooperation that we have received from all of our families, the Tionesta community, East Forest and the Marienville communities, the Sheriff’s office, especially our local churches and the Tionesta Fire Department,” stated Hetrick.
