William Dick HainesWilliam Dick Haines, 91, peacefully passed away April 12th at his Wellsville Manor residence in Wellsville, NY.

Dick was born in Brookville, PA on December 7, 1925.

The first child of Paul Lyle Haines and Mary Carrier Haines, Dick spent most of his youth in Brookville attending The Immaculate Conception School.

Shortly after his 17th Birthday and in his senior year, Dick withdrew from high school and enlisted with his father Paul in the United States Navy to answer their country’s call to service during World War II.

After basic training, he went to the University of Wisconsin Naval Radio and Communications School, upon graduation he was assigned to the USS Otus as a radioman and was deployed for the duration of the war in the south pacific.

He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946, having earned the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class.

He returned to Pennsylvania and attended Williamsport Technical College earning a degree in drafting and design. Dick worked in the drafting and construction design field his whole career with the last 38 years as Highway designer for the PA Department of Transportation.

He married Betty Brochey in 1957. They lived and raised their family in Indiana, Pa, until he retired from PennDot in 1986, and moved to Clearwater Florida.

Following the death of his first wife, he married Rose Sobierajski, they lived in St. Mary’s, PA, and belonged to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church for 22 years.

Dick was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Parish, Indiana, PA and for the past six years a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels in Olean, NY.

Dick was also the owner and Founder of Camp Beach Nook in Forest County Pa. Built by Dick, his father, brothers, and friends it was a wonderful place for family gatherings and fall hunting trips.

He was a member of the Duckout camp in Indiana, Pa.

He enjoyed hunting and spending time with the camp guys. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus, Brookville, Pa, Life member of St. Marys Elks lodge #437, St. Marys Legion Post 103, and the Penn Dot 35 year club.

Dick is survived by his brother George (Joyce) Haines, Brookville, Pa., three children, Paul L (Robin) Haines, Indiana, Pa., Michael F Haines North Port, Fla., Dottie Denson (Bob Silva) Scottsdale, Az,. Step Daughters, Christine Lynn, Ridgeway, Pa. and Michele (Wilbur) Youngs, Portville, NY., 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, a daughter Susan Leslie Haines, his brother Thomas Haines, a sister Ellen and her husband Bill Sherman, and second wife Rose.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, April 21, 2017, from 4 — 8pm at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville PA, 15825.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 129 Graham Ave., Brookville, PA, 15825, beginning at 10:00am, and officiated by Father William Laska.

Interment will take place at the St. Mary’s, Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Rose Twp, Jefferson County, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association.
