William F. “Bill” Rietter, 89, of Greeves Street, Kane, died Thursday afternoon, June 14, 2018, at his residence.

Born July 7, 1928, in Kane, he was the son of Francis C. and Edith A. Carlson Rietter. On August 20, 1966, in Kane, he married Ruth M. Benson, who died June 20, 1998.

Bill served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was logistics manager at Affiliated Industries in Kane and was self-employed in woodworking.

He was a member of Tabor Ev. Lutheran Church in Kane, where he was an usher and active in many aspects of the church. He also belonged to Kane Lodge #566 F&AM in Kane, had been a member of the Kane Volunteer Fire Dept. and was an active community advocate. He was a founding member of the former Kane Drum & Bugle Corps and was an antique car enthusiast.

Surviving are a daughter Kim (Brad) Loux of Lakewood, N.Y.; three sisters Mary Fiedler of Falconer, N.Y., Betty Straneva and Ruth LoBue, both of Kane; two brothers, George Rietter of Kane and Karl Rietter of Sunshine Ranches, Fla.; plus grandchildren Bryan Aipoalani and Tarah Friedrich and great-grandchildren Jack, Allie, and Cole.

He was preceded in death, besides his wife and parents, by siblings David Rietter and Helen Lynde.

Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and may attend a service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Tabor Ev. Lutheran Church with the rev. Bill Waterman, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Oakmont Cemetery in Ridgway.
