GOETZwilliamWilliam M. “Bill” Goetz, 72, a resident of Franklin, died peacefully at 2:40 AM Monday, October 12, 2015 in his beloved cabin at Rockland, with his wife by his side; following a period of declining health.

Born in Erie on June 15, 1943, he was the oldest son of the late: William O. and Marion J. Ely Goetz.

Bill was a 1961 graduate of Rice Avenue Union High School in Girard.

On June 29, 1968, he married the former Kathleen R. Patterson in Huntington Beach, CA. Following their return to Pennsylvania, they resided in Franklin and laughed together for 47 years.

He worked with his father in the coal business until the mid-1970’s, when he began farming in Rockland raising beef cattle. In 1982, he purchased a herd of Jersey cows from the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC and began dairy farming. Bill worked in the dairy business until ill health necessitated a career change in 1990. At that time he founded Franklin Livery Service, which provided services and vehicles to many local funeral homes as well as the Venango County Coroner’s Office. He derived great satisfaction from the successful business he created with the support and friendship of the area’s funeral directors; as well as his employees, most especially, Larry Mackey and the late, Ronald Bole.

Bill loved his family, his dog Bear, the camp he created at Rockland, fast cars and all women.

Most of those who encountered him heard about his three granddaughters who were the sweetest, smartest, cutest and most wonderful little girls ever.

Bill will be remembered for his quick mind, wonderful sense of humor and genuine kind heart. He was generous to a fault, irreverent and sometimes inappropriate, but always endearing. Bill will be missed forever by all those who knew and loved him!

He is survived by his wife Kathleen Goetz; his children: Jennifer L. Goetz and her daughter Addison J. Goetz Montague of Denver, CO, Matthew W. Goetz, also of Denver and John J. Goetz and his wife Melinda R. (Gahr) Goetz and their daughters: Anna J. and Mara J. Goetz of Pittsburgh.

He is also survived by his brother James L. Goetz and his wife Kathleen of Fort Myers, FL; by his sisters-in-law, Cecelia A. and Patricia J. Patterson and his brother-in-law, Tim Patterson of Seattle, WA. Additionally, he is survived by his beloved cousins, several nieces and nephews and by his devoted dear friend, Terry W. Swasy.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call Friday 3-5 & 7-9 PM in the Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk Street, Franklin. Friends may also call Saturday from 10-11 AM in the funeral home where funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 AM with Reverend Mark Rusnack, officiating.

Interment will follow in Melat Cemetery.
