Woman Accused of Attacking Nurse at UPMC Northwest

CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A 26-year-old woman is behind bars after she allegedly attacked a nurse at UPMC Northwest on Monday.

Court documents indicate the Franklin-based State Police filed the following criminal charges against 26-year-old Donna Jeanne Smith, of DuBois, on Monday, May 13:

– Aggravated Assault, Felony 1
– Terroristic Threats With Intent to Terrorize Another, Misdemeanor 1
– Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Misdemeanor 2

According to a criminal complaint, Monday, May 13, Tpr. Cirell of the Franklin-based State Police was dispatched to the residence of a known victim who is employed at UPMC Northwest.

According to the complaint, the victim reported that she had been physically assaulted by Donna Smith at the hospital’s Behavioral Health Unit. The victim said Smith charged at her, which knocked her off balance and into a wall, and Smith then grabbed her hair and pressed her up against the wall.

The victim reported that Smith held her against the wall for approximately two or three minutes, and when hospital security arrived, they took Smith to the ground, which finally made her let go of the victim’s hair. The victim reported that the altercation caused her to have severe neck pain and whiplash.

The complaint notes that the victim stated the incident began because Smith said she wanted “a shot.” During the altercation, the victim reported that Smith threatened to hurt her, saying “I’m gonna f*** you up. Call the police. I don’t care. I’m not gonna stop until I get a shot.”

Trp. Cirell then spoke with two other hospital employees who witnessed the altercation firsthand and corroborated the victim’s story. The witnesses noted there is also security camera footage of the altercation.

Smith was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15.

Unable to post $20,000.00 monetary bail, Smith was lodged in the Venango County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, with Judge Fish presiding.
