CLARION BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A 20-year-old Jersey Shore woman accused of assaulting two Clarion Borough Police officers during an altercation last summer is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

Online court documents indicate that Alexie Dallas Hurlbutt, of Jersey Shore, Pa., is scheduled to be sentenced on March 13, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. before President Judge James G. Arner.

On February 7, 2018, at the Clarion County Courthouse, Hurlbutt pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree misdemeanor simple assault and one count of second-degree misdemeanor resisting arrest.

As part of a plea deal, the following charges were dropped — three counts each of aggravated assault and disorderly conduct; two counts each of simple assault and resisting arrest; and one count each of public drunkenness, purchasing alcohol by a minor, and institutional vandalism.

A second charge of public drunkenness was withdrawn.

The charges stem from a September 17, 2017, incident in Clarion Borough.

Around 1:22 a.m., Clarion Borough Police Officer Maxwell was on a routine patrol when he observed a white female passed out in front of a house along 7th Avenue near George Road, according to a criminal complaint filed in district court.

When Officer Maxwell approached the woman, she got up and started to stumble away.

“I asked her to stop, and she finally did,” said Officer Maxwell in the criminal complaint.

The criminal complaint states that the woman “smelled strongly of an intoxicating beverage and had glassy, bloodshot eyes.”

When Officer Maxwell asked her if she needed medical attention, she refused.

“I asked her for her name and date of birth but all she told me was her first name — Alexie,” explained Officer Maxwell.

Officer Maxwell then placed her under arrest on Public Drunkenness charges.

According to the criminal complaint, Officer Maxwell transported her to the Clarion Borough Police station where he attempted to gather additional information.

Through further investigation, Officer Maxwell was able to identify the woman as Alexie Dallas Hurlbutt.

“She started acting in an unstable manner, so I requested EMS to come to the station,” said Officer Maxwell.

Hurlbutt agreed to be evaluated by medical personnel.

“She entered the ambulance but gave (medical personnel) so many issues, I had to take her out of the ambulance and cuff her,” said Officer Maxwell.

Officer Maxwell then transported Hurlbutt to the Clarion Hospital ER where she was evaluated and cleared.

The criminal complaint states that Officer Maxwell asked Hurlbutt if someone could come to the ER to get her, but she refused to cooperate.

“I cuffed her in the back, double-locked her cuffs, and then transported her back to the station,” said Officer Maxwell.

Upon arrival at the station, Officer Maxwell discovered that she had slipped out of one of the handcuffs while in the back of the police vehicle.

Officer Maxwell then instructed Hurlbutt to exit the vehicle, and he attempted to re-cuff her. At this point, Hurlbutt allegedly resisted arrest and attempted to fight Officer Maxwell.

“I told her several times to stop resisting, but she refused,” said Officer Maxwell. “I had to take her to the ground to re-cuff her.”

At this point, Officer Maxwell requested backup.

Once inside the police station, Hurlbutt allegedly continued to resist arrest.

Officer Fox arrived and helped Officer Maxwell place Hurlbutt inside “the cage” — a temporary holding cell.

Hurlbutt allegedly began to scream and started kicking the cage. At this point, Officer Fox discovered that Hurlbutt had broken a hole in the cell and was attempting to climb out of it.

Hurlbutt successfully climbed out of the cell and allegedly started fighting both officers.

While Officer Fox attempted to handcuff Hurlbutt to the cage, she allegedly bit him two times on the right shoulder, and then she allegedly kicked Officer Maxwell in the groin.

The officers were finally able to handcuff her to the cell and secure her within it.

Around 5:00 a.m., Hurlbutt was arraigned before on-call District Judge Amy Long Turk.

She was placed in the Clarion County Jail and released Monday, September 18, 2017, after posting $1,000.00 cash bail.
