Woman Accused of Stealing Tablet from Oil City Coffee Shop

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — A Pleasantville woman is facing criminal charges after she allegedly stole and sold an electronic tablet in Oil City.

Court documents indicate that the Oil City Police Department filed criminal charges against 26-year-old Melissa May Morrow of Pleasantville.

According to a criminal complaint, the Oil City Police received a report that a Verizon Ellipsis tablet was stolen from a coffee shop on Seneca Street on Tuesday, September 18.

On September 19, around 3:50 p.m. the owner of the tablet was advised by a known individual that he had purchased the tablet from Melissa Morrow. While the individual was using the tablet, he was given information that led him to believe the tablet was stolen. He then contacted the owner who confirmed it had been stolen the previous day.

According to the complaint, through investigation, police discovered that Morrow was staying in the basement of the coffee shop with an employee on the day of the theft.

The individual who purchased the stolen tablet was able to positively identify Morrow as the woman who sold it to him.

Based on the investigation, the following charges were filed on Thursday, September 20, in Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s office:

  • Theft by Unlawful Taking-Moveable Property, Misdemeanor 2
  • Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 1

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, with Judge Fish presiding.
