JENKS TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A 38-year-old woman is facing felony charges after she was discovered attempting to sneak drugs into SCI Forest for an inmate.

Court documents indicate the Marienville-based State Police filed criminal charges against Neverlyn Vargas, of Philadelphia.

According to a criminal complaint, around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, staff members at SCI Forest in Jenks Township provided Trooper Smith, of the Marienville-based State Police, with information pertaining to an incident in which Neverlyn Vargas was observed on video surveillance in possession of an unknown substance, later confirmed as suboxone, with the intent to deliver it to an inmate during a visit.

According to the complaint, it was determined that Vargas allegedly attempted to pass approximately 15 suboxone strips and approximately 1.4 grams of synthetic marijuana to a known disabled, wheelchair-bound inmate.

The complaint notes that once the possession was suspected, Vargas was separated from the inmate based on Department of Corrections policies and procedures. The suspected contraband was then tested and found to be suboxone and synthetic marijuana.

Vargas was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Laura S. Bauer at 9:00 p.m. on August 11 on the following charges:

– Contraband/Controlled Substance, Felony 2
– Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony
– Possession of Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor

Unable to post $10,000.00 monetary bail, she was lodged in the Warren County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, with Magisterial District Judge Daniel L. Miller presiding.
