SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Behind three event champions and 16 total scoring performances, the Clarion University women’s track and field team finished third at the Slippery Rock University Open Thursday with 77 points.

The Golden Eagles, who were third behind Slippery Rock (223 points) and Seton Hill (113.5 points), outdistanced PSAC rivals Bloomsburg (4th with 70.5 points), Edinboro (5th with 66 points) and California (Pa.) (9th with 19 points) in the 11-team meet.

Outright first-place finishes by freshmen Tatiana Cloud in the 400-meter hurdles and Courtney Corban in the 400-meter dash and a six-way tie for first place by Sarah Loughner in the high jump played important parts in the team finish as did a school-record performance by the 4×100-meter relay team and a PSAC-qualifying throw in the discus by Erin White, who finished fifth in the event.

Cloud won the 400 hurdles in a personal-best time of 1:03.46 bettering her previous top mark of 1:04.83, while Corban won the 400 with a time of 59.85. Both athletes earned 10 points for Clarion. Loughner tied for first with five other athletes in the high jump with a leap of 1.58 meters to earn six points. The jump tied her season-best performance.

Corban was also part of the record-setting 4×100 relay team where she was joined by Jessica Shomo, Jessica Vitous and Anna Pfingstler. The relay ran a time of 49.21 bettering the previous school record of 49.57 set in 2012 by Vitous, Alexis Carter, Bethany Naugle and Nicolena Guzzi. The time Thursday was good for second place.

White qualified for the conference meet in the discus with a throw of 35.13 meters.

The Golden Eagles also got a second-place ending by Ciara Shorts in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a season-best time of 11:01.27 bettering the seniors previous NCAA Division II provisional-qualifying time of 11:02.77 by 1 seconds.

Also in the steeplechase, Megan Toddy took fourth in a time of 11:23.16.

Additional fourth-place finishers for Clarion included Pfingstler in the 400 (1:00.64) and Katie Chambers in the 800 (2:23.38), while Kristen Belko was fifth in the long jump (5.11 meters) and Jessica Hamrick tied for fifth in the pole vault (3.15 meters).

Maria Taylor added a sixth-place ending in the javelin (37.72 meters) and a seventh-place finish in the discus (33.78 meters) with Kelsey Murray taking eighth in the 400 hurdles (1:09.02) and Milea Reynolds eighth in the 5,000-meter run (19:38.34) to close out the scoring for the Golden Eagles.

Clarion returns to action April 26 in the Paul Kaiser Invitational at Shippensburg in the last full meet before the PSAC Championships, which start May 1 in Shippensburg.
