YMCA Partners with NFL Flag Football

nfl flag (1)OIL CITY, Pa. – Flag football gives every child the chance to be an impact player.

Kids of all sizes are throwing and catching the ball, making interceptions, pulling flags on defense and running for 50-yard touchdowns – all while having a good time, making friends, getting exercise, and having fun.

The Oil City YMCA is offering NFL FLAG Football for grades 1 to 5 at the Oil City High School football field. The program is in conjunction with NFL Flag.

Age groupings of grades 1 to 2 and grades 3 to 5 will practice once a week and play games on Saturdays. All practices and games are held at the Oil City High School.

Along with being a fun and exciting sport that can be played year round, children learn football skills while understanding the importance of maintaining good form and footwork.

“Kids will learn the fundamentals of football and compete with other players who love the game as much as they do. It’s great exercise. It’s fun. And kids get to wear authentic NFL team jerseys while doing it,” said Max Krepps, YMCA Youth Sports program director.

NFL FLAG is a non-contact sport but requires the same focus and concentration as the tackle game on every play.

Both girls and boys are welcome to register.

“Flag football is about learning another sport and getting the benefits of self-esteem and team camaraderie,” Krepps said.

The cost of the program is $30.00 for YMCA members and $50.00 for non-members.

Participants that register by August 31 will receive an authentic NFL team jersey.
