OIL CITY, Pa. – Oil City YMCA Wellness Director Katie Port knows people want to lose weight in the new year and has the perfect motivation for success…CASH!

Port’s “Slim Down in the New Year” Challenge is coming in January and encourages participants to lose 5% of their body weight and start the new year off right.

“Thirty-six people participated in our first weight loss challenge last year,” said Port. “Everyone lost weight and the winners each went home with $90.00 in their pocket!”

The weight loss challenge requires each participant to weigh-in at the YMCA on either January 2nd from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or January 3rd from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Anyone who cannot make these times can make an appointment by calling the YMCA at 814-677-3000.

After the weigh-in, participants have eight weeks to eat right and workout.  Weekly weigh-ins at the YMCA are optional.  The goal is to reduce body weight by 5% by March 4. For the 180 pound person, the goal is to lose nine pounds to earn the cash.

Members may work out at the YMCA or at home and non-members have the option to join the Y or work out on their own.  All new YMCA members will be offered three free SmartStart sessions with a wellness coach to help meet their health goals.  Registration for the SmartStart program is required within 30 days of joining the YMCA and can be scheduled right away after joining.

The cost to participate is $25.00 for YMCA Members and $35.00 for Non-members. Twenty dollars is placed in the winner’s pot for each person that joins the challenge. Those who lose 5% of their body weight will split the pot of cash!

Final weigh-ins for the challenge will be held on Monday, March 4th from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or on Tuesday, March 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Anyone who cannot make it during these times may make an appointment on or before March 4.
