OIL CITY, Pa. — Oil City YMCA Wellness Director Katie Port is encouraging the community to get started on a wellness journey this fall. Her “Slim Down for the Holidays” Challenge is coming in October and encourages participants to lose 5% of their body weight before the holidays.

“Thirty-six people participated in our first weight loss challenge earlier this year,” said Port. “Everyone lost weight and the winners went home with $90.00 in their pocket!”

The challenge requires each participant to weigh-in at the YMCA at the beginning of October. After the weigh-in, participants have eight weeks to eat right and workout. The goal is to reduce body weight by 5% by December 1. For the 180 pound person, the goal is to lose nine pounds.

Participants can sign-up and weigh-in on Monday, October 2, from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. or on October 3 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Oil City YMCA.

The cost to participate is $25.00 for YMCA Members and $35.00 for Non-members. Twenty dollors is placed in the winner’s pot for each person that joins the challenge. Those who lose 5% of their body weight will split the pot of cash!

Final weigh-ins for the challenge will be held Thursday, November 30, from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the YMCA.

“It’s the perfect time of year for the weight loss challenge,” said Port. “You’ll feel great about losing weight and have some extra cash to spend for the holidays. Consider it an investment in your health!”

Anyone who has questions about the challenge can call Katie Port at 814-677-3000.
