Bernice A. Rowe, 87, of Knox, died peacefully in her sleep Wednesday Oct. 30, 2013, at the Serenity House in Shippenville, following a period of declining health.

Born April 15, 1926, in Richland township she was the daughter of the late Phyllis and John Ritchey. On Oct. 29, 1946, Bernice married Robert Rowe.

When Bernice’s children were young she was very active in their lives teaching Bible School, Sunday School and being a den leader for the Boy Scouts.

She was a fine seamstress, making everything from curtains to doll clothes, including her children’s clothes and uniforms.

Bernice enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and extended family. During the 60’s and 70’s she enjoyed quilting with a group of ladies fondly referred to as the “crazy eights.”

Above all else Bernice loved to play the piano. Bernice had a pleasant spirit about her and enjoyed her social time with others, including her recent friends and caregivers at the Serenity House.

Bernice is survived by a daughter, Mary Wise and her husband, Dan, of Knox; and six grandchildren, Robert Rowe and his wife Emily, Steven Rowe and his fiance Valerie, Brian Rowe and his wife Kim, Jeffery Rowe and his wife Julie, Jenna Orbison and her husband Eric, and Di Clark Wise.

Along with her husband and parents Bernice was preceded in death by a son, Robert Rowe II, and a sister, Margaret, in childhood.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home, Inc., 504 E. Penn St., Knox, and from 10 to 11 a.m.
