CANAL TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — According to Franklin-based State Police, around 8:50 p.m. on July 29, a car versus deer accident occurred on 28th Division Highway (State Route 322), west of Grove Road, in Canal Township, Venango County.

Police say 66-year-old Michael J. Manafo, of Wesleyville, was traveling west on SR 322 when a deer jumped into the path of his 2012 Ford Focus and was struck by the same.

The deer was killed from the impact and the Ford pulled off to the right side of the roadway and activated hazard signals, according to police.

Manafo and a passenger — 54-year-old Dale Lavery, of Erie — were using seat belts and were not injured.
