HARRISVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Additional details have been released regarding the case against a man accused of assaulting a police officer and others in Harrisville Borough.

According to court documents, the Harrisville Borough Police Department filed the following criminal charges against 25-year-old Ryan Joseph Batra, of Harrisville, in Magisterial District Judge Joseph J. Nash’s office on Wednesday, May 31:

  • Aggravated Assault — Attempts to cause or causes BI to designated individuals, Felony 2
  • Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
  • Criminal Mischief/Damage Property Intentional, Reckless, Or Negligence, Summary

According to a criminal complaint, the Harrisville Borough Police Department was dispatched to the area of N. Main Street in Harrisville Borough, Butler County, for a reported disturbance around 3:54 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31.

Butler County 9-1-1 advised responding officers that the actor was throwing food and had thrown a kitchen cabinet, the complaint states.

Officers arrived on scene at 3:58 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, and were directed into the house by the staff worker. Officers entered the residence and observed food lying on the kitchen floor and Ryan Joseph Batra on the phone. An officer asked Batra who he was talking to, and Batra stated he was talking to his mother. The officer asked Batra to hang up the phone and sit on the couch and talk. Batra did not comply with the officer’s requests, according to the complaint.

Batra then became agitated with the female worker. At this time, an officer stepped in between Batra and the female worker as they continued to argue. Batra yelled at the female worker, saying, “you (expletive), you (expletive),” the complaint states.

At this time, Batra picked up a pack of hamburger buns and attempted to throw them at the female worker. In the process of Batra throwing the buns, he hit the officer on the top of his head with his hand and wrist, the complaint states.

The officer then grabbed Batra around the waist area and took him to the ground. Batra continued to fight and resist the officer, the complaint indicates.

During the struggle, Batra reached and grabbed for the officer’s head, neck, and face, leaving visible red marks and scratches on the officer’s neck and face, according to the complaint.

During the struggle, a male staff worker assisted the officer in restraining Batra, who eventually agreed to place his hands behind his back and comply with police orders. He was placed under arrest and taken into custody.

A written statement was taken from both workers, who further told investigators that Batra had gotten upset and ripped the kitchen cabinet off of the wall and threw it at the staff workers, the complaint states.

The male staff worker stated he attempted to block the cabinet with his hands. He stated that if he had not blocked it, it would have hit him and the female worker, causing injury, the complaint indicates.

Batra was arraigned at 8:24 p.m. on May 31, in front of Judge Nash.

Unable to post $?25,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Butler County Prison.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, June 7, at 1:00 p.m. with Judge Nash presiding.
