CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Charges have been filed against a local man who was reportedly found in possession of multiple controlled substances and an illegal weapon in Cranberry Township on Sunday.

Court documents indicate the Franklin-based State Police on Monday, January 31, filed criminal charges against 33-year-old David Scott Reed, of Cranberry.

According to a criminal complaint, around 1:44 p.m. on Sunday, January 30, Franklin-based State Police observed a gold 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier off the side of the road in the 200 block of Van Road, in Cranberry Township, Venango County, with a male in the passenger seat slumped over toward the driver’s seat.

Police also observed a smoking pipe of the kind commonly used for illegal drugs on the seat between the man and the center console. A trooper then opened the passenger door and retrieved the pipe, at which point the man, later identified as David Scott Reed, woke up, the complaint notes.

Reed was placed under arrest and handcuffed, although he reportedly struggled against being handcuffed, according to the complaint.

After being handcuffed, Reed was searched, and police found a small ziplock bag of white powder in Reed’s interior jacket pocket. Police also reportedly found a small blue box on the driver’s seat, which they recognized as a type of box drug users regularly utilize to store additional drugs and/or paraphernalia, the complaint states.

Police then requested and were granted a search warrant for the vehicle.

According to the complaint, a search of the vehicle located and seized numerous controlled substances, including marijuana, marijuana wax, methamphetamine, heroin, and pills, as well as drug paraphernalia, including small unused ziplock baggies, boxes that held various drugs, a piece of plastic straw, and a glass smoking pipe.

The search also reportedly located an expandable baton in the center console of the vehicle.

Reed was transported to UPMC Northwest for a legal blood draw to test for the presence of controlled substances.

The complaint notes police also found Reed’s driver’s license was DUI suspended.

He was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey at 1:30 p.m. on January 31, on the following charges:

– Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony (three counts)
– Make Repairs/Sell/Etc Offensive Weapon, Misdemeanor 1
– DUI: Controlled Substance — Impaired Ability — 1st Offense, Misdemeanor
– Use/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor
– Driving While BAC .02 or Grater While License Suspended, Summary

He was lodged in the Venango County Jail with bail denied due to currently being on parole.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on February 16 with Judge Lowrey presiding.

Court documents indicate Reed has a criminal history dating back to 2006 with convictions ranging from DUI and misdemeanor drug possession to theft and felony conspiracy drug possession with intent to manufacture or deliver.
