According to Venango County 9-1-1, the call came in around 7:10 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, for a fire in a second-floor bedroom of a residence at 213 State Street, in Oil City, Venango County.

Oil City Fire Department Chief Derek Long told exploreVenango.com that the fire was reported after a resident of the home discovered smoke and heat on the second floor.

“(The cause) was a child playing with a lighter,” Long said. “The damage is pretty much just that second story, and is ruled accidental.”

Long said the fire was mostly out by the time his department arrived.

The scene was cleared at 8:28 p.m.

The residents were displaced temporarily and will be staying with family, according to Long.

It’s likely that the home can be repaired, Long noted.

No injuries were reported.

Seneca Volunteer Fire Department, Franklin City Fire Department, Oil City Police, and Community Ambulance Service were also called to the scene.
