Choco-Larceny: Area Woman in Sticky Situation for Allegedly Stealing $19 Worth of Sweets
CLARION CO., Pa. (EYT) — An area woman with an insatiable sweet tooth found herself in hot “chocolate” with the law after she was reportedly caught stealing $19.00 worth of sweets from a Rimersburg grocery store.
Court records show that on April 11, the Southern Clarion County Regional Police filed criminal charges against 46-year-old Carissa Nicole Mohney, of Parker, in Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey C. Miller’s office.
According to the criminal complaint, on March 30, around 5:12 p.m., Carissa Mohney entered a grocery store on the 500 block of Main Street in Rimersburg, Clarion County, and placed two items in her purse inside the store while on camera.
The items were listed as a “Reese’s egg” valued at $4.39 and “Giannio’s solid egg” valued at $14.95, according to the complaint.
Mohney then went to the milk section and took a half gallon of milk to the register. She paid for the half gallon of milk with an EBT card, the complaint notes.
Mohney then exited the store with the two items in her purse, having a total value of $19.34.
The complaint notes that Mohney failed to pay for items in her purse.
Two store employees reportedly viewed Mohney picking items off the shelf. And, it was noted that Mohney did not pay for the items, according to the complaint.
Mohney was arraigned at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 17, on the following charges in front of Judge Miller:
- Retail Theft – Take Merchandise, Felony 3 (two counts)
- Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 3 (two counts)
- Theft by Unlawful Taking – Moveable Property, Misdemeanor 3 (two counts)
She is currently free on $5,000.00 unsecured bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday, May 2, at 11:30 a.m. with Judge Miller presiding.
