The charges stem from a chase that occurred around the Barkeyville area in mid-December.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 4:10 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 2021, Polk Borough Police observed a vehicle exiting a gas station in Barkeyville Borough that was last known to have an expired registration. Police followed the vehicle onto State Route 8, ran the registration to check its status, and found that it was still suspended.

The complaint indicates the car turned onto Log Cemetery Road, and police caught up to it as it turned from Log Cemetery Road onto State Route 208. Police utilized their lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop at the intersection of Route 208 and Farren Surrena Road.

According to the complaint, the car then made a right onto Farren Surrena Road and continued traveling. Police then signaled the car to stop with air horns, and the car reportedly accelerated to a high rate of speed.

The pursuit continued as the car turned onto Jacobs Road, where it reportedly struck two mailboxes, and the driver then dislodged the mailboxes from the windshield as the vehicle passed Byers Road. The vehicle subsequently turned onto Georgetown Road, failing to stop at a stop sign, finally making a turn onto Porter Road.

Police then lost sight of the vehicle briefly due to heavy dust from the road but found it off the road, where it reportedly went up an embankment and struck a tree.

The complaint notes police found the car empty with the engine still running.

According to the complaint, a nearby resident informed police she saw the driver run across the road up a hill and into the woods.

The following day, Polk Borough Police received a call from state police informing them Shia Shane Frishkorn II wanted to report his car stolen.

When Polk Borough Police went to speak to Frishkorn, he reportedly stated his car was stolen and said he hadn’t seen it since Sunday (December 12) night.

According to the complaint, when police spoke to Frishkorn, he was wearing the same clothing the suspect driver had been described wearing the previous night.

One day later, police obtained a written statement from a known individual who reported Frishkorn had been “bragging” about the incident to him, stating that he fled from police, got into a wreck, and fled the scene, the complaint indicates.

Police also reviewed video evidence from the gas station where the vehicle was first spotted and found it showed Frishkorn was the driver of the vehicle.

The charges were filed against Frishkorn through Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey’s office on Wednesday, December 22.
