Community Helps Police Identify Rural King Theft Suspect

SUGARCREEK BORO., Pa. (EYT) – The Sugarcreek Borough Police Department has identified and apprehended a suspect allegedly involved in an incident of theft at Rural King in Franklin last week. 

Police say 37-year-old Thomas Rodgers, of Franklin, was identified and taken into custody on Thursday, August 4.

According to Sugarcreek Borough Police, a report of theft was received on Wednesday, July 27, from the manager of Rural King, located at 491 Allegheny Boulevard, in Franklin, Venango County.

“With the due diligence from The Derrick and exploreVenango, it is to our satisfaction that we have received dozens of phone calls from the community in regards to who the suspect is,” stated a press release issued by Sugarcreek Borough Police. “With the help and support from the community … SBPD spoke with Rodgers and determined he in fact is the suspect of retail theft.”

The stolen items, three Gerber knives, were recovered and returned to the store, police said.

According to the release, Rodgers will be cited on one count of retail theft, one count of driving without a valid license, and one count of driving while license is suspended/revoked.

No information was released on the second suspect.
