Cooperstown Man Pleads Guilty to Child Molestation Charges

FRANKLIN, Pa. – In Venango County Court of Common Pleas yesterday, a Cooperstown man pleaded guilty to four sexual assault charges stemming from incidents that occurred between May 1, 2010, and July of 2012.

On January 15, Scott William Smith, 29, of Cooperstown – a former Oil City School District crossing guard – was arrested for engaging in sexual activities with four boys under the age of 16.

According to court documents, Smith pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated indecent assault with a person under 16 (Felony 2) and three counts of indecent assault of a person under 16 (Misdemeanor 2).

Court documents indicate that the following charges were dismissed:

-three counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 16 years old
-one count of indecent assault without consent of others
-one count of indecent assault of a person under 16

Smith remains in Venango County Jail on $100,000.00 bail, awaiting sentencing.
