David L. Jones, 67, of Franklin, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Sugar Creek Station.

Born on April 6, 1952, in Franklin, he was the son of the late William L., Sr. and Geneva M. (Slocum) Jones.

David was a 1970 graduate of Rocky Grove High School. He then went on to get his college diploma from Grove City College in 1974 and later to get his masters in business administration from Clarion University in 1982.

From 1975 to 1983, David worked at Pennzoil in Oil City, where he managed the Rail Car Fleet. In 1987, he started working with the United States Department of Transportation as an Auditor for the Inspector General. In 2003, David retired and moved back home to the Franklin area.

In his spare time, David kept himself busy with his many hobbies and clubs. He was passionate about astronomy and was a member and treasurer of the Oil Region Astronomical Society, where he helped build a new observatory off of Camp Coffman Road.

David was also an Eagle Scout and involved with Troop 28 of Rocky Grove; involved with local oil history; and had a Ham Radio Amateur Extra License. One of the things he never got to check off his list, however, was getting the King Charles Cavalier Spaniel dog he had always wanted.

Left to cherish his memory is his brother, William Jones and his wife, Judy, of Franklin; his nephew, William E. Jones and his wife, Jade, of Franklin; his niece, Jennifer Cox and her husband, Kevin, of Pittsburgh; his two great-nieces, Amelia and Eliza Cox, both of Pittsburgh; and his special friend, Elaine Clark of Baltimore, MD.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 9, at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, Pa. 16323, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Funeral services for David will be held on Friday, May 10, at the funeral home starting at 10 a.m., with the Reverend David Betz, Deacon of the St. John’s Episcopal Church, officiating.

David will be laid to rest next to his parents at Franklin Cemetery following the funeral service.
